Hello everyone. Things are moving along well here. While in Fukuoka during the play at Air, we had the chance to have a in-store promotion/talk at Tower Records. The staff there were very, very nice and helpful with everything. Great Display....Thanks again. The party at Air was really good. Very educated crew, probably due to the good djs that play regularly. Fukuoka is known for it's specialty food, ramen. Though, I missed the chance to taste (the need for sleep won!), I could smell it from the street vendors next to my hotel. Thanks to all that came to Air. See you next time.

We're all very busy at this time finishing off the last minute details before tonight with the Japan debut of Scion. Scion arrived in Tokyo yesterday (10/20) from Berlin. We met last night for dinner at a really good Japanese restuarant. We're all looking forward to hearing them perform. Should be a very, very interesting night. The weather here is better. Cloudy but, stable.

On 10/19, we had a production meeting to slightly change to structure of the night. Halfway into the meeting.......a earthquake..........4.0.........everyone sat still, stared at each other with a wided-eye half smile and waited for the earth and entire building to stop shaking. When it finally stopped, the smiles became large and sense of calm came. We resume the meeting. What we plan to do this week is install extra lights in parts of the club that enhance the overall depth and scope of space. Just to give you some idea of how each night of the residency is structured, here is the outline for tonight:

Infinite Special (phase 1:DOORS OPEN)
DJ starts 1st set. Classic Detroit Techno, Techno House oriented, emotional Techno, abstract pieces/classical orchestrations. Volume level will be slightly lower.
Video: Display title "Contact Special" - "Infinite Special" No images
Lighting: Low lighting. Green/Blue color. Calm

Infinite Special (phase 2)
DJ slowly increases pace of music. Increases volume to normal level.
Video: Along with the displayed titles "Contact Special/Infinite Special", still frame images of UFO/Alien data are gradually being added to the video screen.
Lighting: Low lighting. Green/Blue color. Slight movement of the lights. Calm.

Connection Special (SCION PERFORMANCE)
DJ decreases pace of music. Plays transition music until Scion is in place and ready to start performance.
Video: Video displays "Connnection Special/Contact Special/Scion" for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, screen goes to black background.
Video screen displays Red color. Video screen displays flashes of Red/White and title "Scion" until the end of performance.

Connection Special (phase 2)
DJ starts 2nd set. Classic Techno, Percussion Techno, etc. Faster pace.
Video: Displays "Contact Special" and still images of UFO/Alien data.
Lighting: Active movement of lighting. Green/Blue/Red and white flashes. No laser, no strobe.

Connection Special (phase 3)
DJ brings pace of music to transitional period. Classical String arrangements, etc.
Video: Screen goes to black. No images, no titles
Lighting: All lights go off except a few green/blue lights. Fog fills room.

Illumination Special (THE ABDUCTION)
DJ immediately plays faster pace of music. Extreme. Caution Techno.
Video: Screen displays "Illumination Special/Contact Special" and images of UFO/Alien data. Speed rate of images are faster.
Lighting: Strobe light segments begin.

Illumination Special (phase 2)
DJ increases strength of music. Caution Techno. Climaxing.

皆さん、こんにちわ。すべてはうまくいっている。福岡のAirにプレイしに行ったとき、現地のタワーレコードで店頭イベントをやる機会があった。スタッフは皆とてもナイスでとても助かった。（Contact Specialの）ディスプレイもグレート！　ありがとう。Airでのパーティもとても良かった。クルーもすごくよく教育されていて、たぶんレギュラーで回しているDJたちがいいからなんだろう。福岡といえばラーメンが有名だ。でも僕は今回食べるチャンスがなかった（眠さが食欲より優勢だったのだ）！　ホテルの隣に屋台がでていて匂いも漂ってきていたのに。Airに来てくれた皆、ありがとう。また次回会おう。

今晩のScionの日本デビューに向けて僕らは最後の詰めで忙しい。昨日、20日にScionはベルリンから到着した。おいしい日本食を囲んで昨晩彼らに会った。僕も彼らのパフォーマンスを聞くのが楽しみだ。とてもとても面白い夜になるだろう。天気もよくなったことだし。ちょっと曇っているが雨の心配はない。

10月19日にプロダクション・ミーティングをして今晩の構成をちょっと変えることにした。ミーティングの最中、地震が・・・震度４・・・全員座ったままでびっくりしながらお互いを見合っていた。半分笑いながら地面とビルの揺れが収まるのを待った。やっと揺れがとまったとき、みんなの笑顔は大きくなり、安堵感が漂った。ミーティングを続けた。今週はライトを余計にセットすることにして、宇宙全体の深さ、広さをより表現できるようにする予定。レジデンシーの各週がどのように構成されているかわかってもらうために、今晩のアウトラインを教えよう。

Infinite Special (ドア・オープン）
DJがファーストセットを始める。クラシカル・デトロイトテクノ、ハウスよりのテクノ、エモーショナルなテクノ、アブストラクトやクラシカル・オーケストラの曲など。ボリュームは控えめ。ビデオは”Contact Special - Infinite Special"の文字。絵はなし。ライティング：低め。緑と青。静かめ。

Infinite Special (phase 2)
DJはゆっくりと音のペースを上げていく。ボリュームも通常へ。

On the train (Shinkansen) from Tokyo to Osaka, Ellen Alien from Berlin boarded on her way to Nagoya for that night. We talked a little. She played the night before in Tokyo as well. Wow, I really enjoyed this party. A small venue, the Triangle is actually more like a tunnel. Very narrow but, 3 stories high. The sound is tight and warm. For the dates outside of the Tokyo and Womb, we created a different performance set-up that involves a large transparent screen directly in front of the DJ stand so that images can be displayed and viewed in the same direction as the DJ. This worked very well. I was able to display certain information that fit the music of that time. We'll continue to do this for the rest of the Japanese Tour dates and possibly in Europe starting January in France. The crowd was great. I played a extra 1 1/2 hours. At times, the music was very emotional and suspenseful. I played alot of new music. Things from new projects that I'm currently working on at this time. Thanks to Triangle staff. Can't wait to return to play again. The Jacuzzi next time!!. Francois K played in a club not too far way. We stayed in the same hotel so, we met up and talked a little before he left for New York. He's very well these days.

東京から大阪に向う新幹線の中でベルリンのEllen Alienに偶然会った。彼女は名古屋のパーティに向う途中。金曜日は彼女も東京でプレイしたんだ。大阪でのパーティはとっても楽しかった。小さなべニューのTriangleはどっちかというとトンネルのよう。幅が狭くて3階建。サウンドはタイトで暖かい。東京以外のパーティでは、Wombとは違ったステージセットになっている。大きな透明のスクリーンをDJブースの前に設置して、DJを見ると同時に映像を見るかたちにした。これはとても良かったと思う。プレイしている音とマッチした映像やインフォメーションを流すことができた。他の都市でも同様のセットにするし、もしかしたら来年1月フランスから始まるヨーロッパツアーでも使用するかもしれない。クラウドもグレートだった。1時間半予定より多くプレイしてしまったほど。ときには音はエモーショナルでサスペンス溢れていた。新しい曲もたくさんかけた。今まだ作業中の新しいプロジェクトからの曲とか。Triangleのスタッフ、ありがとう。また戻ることが待ちきれないよ。次回はジャグジーで！FrancoisKがすぐ近くのクラブでプレイしていた。滞在しているホテルが一緒だったので、会ってちょっと話をした。彼はNYへもう戻るらしい。とても元気そうだった。

今日は東京。雨、雨、また雨・・・。

OK, well. It happened. The first night of the Contact Special/Japan Womb Residency went as planned. The synronisation of the sound, lighting and video enhanced the concept very, very well. At the beginning of the night, we kept the sound, lighting and video in a low position. The crowd made their way to dancefloor and in the dark corners of the club. Gradually working all the elements up until 1:00am and to the introduction of Co-Fusion, we increased the tension. The live performance of CO-Fusion was perfect. Simple, funky and quite innovative. I learned alot of new things listening to their set. The people enjoyed them as well. CO-Fusion should be heard more!.

Alright, we intensely made our way up to 3:00am (The Abduction). To emphasis the effect of the special lighting, we made the room very dark, the sound dropped to a classical introduction and then once the room was filled with fog/smoke.........Boom!. Eight power strobe light directly above the center of the dancefloor lit the entire room like a lighting bolt. The people on the dancefloor were trapped......or, "Taken". The music became more intense. Even from my position from the stage, I could see only 3 feet in front of me -- it was extreme but, refreshingly dramatic. The large video screen behind me displayed obscure images of unidentified flying objects (UFO's). In all, Contact was made!.

We kept the uptempo pace until the very end at 5:00am. A very great night. Thanks all those that came out. See you this friday. Tomorrow (Tuesday), we make our way to Fukuoka. Will send you pics of the party. Stay tuned -- it's far from over.


OK。よし、やったぞ。Contact Specialの最初の夜、Wombでのレジデンシーは計画通りに進んだ。音、ライトとビデオのシンクロはコンセプトを非常にうまく表現した。最初のうちは音、ライティングやビデオを低く設定した。オーディエンスがダンスフロアや、クラブの暗い隅のほうへと進んでいく。1:00まで徐々にそれぞれのエレメンツをアップしていき、Co-Fusionを紹介するころまでにはテンションをあげるようにした。Co-Fusionのライブはパーフェクト！シンプルで、ファンキーで、かなりイノベィティブ。彼らのセットを聞いていていろいろと新しいことを学んだ。来てくれた人たちもエンジョイしてくれたみたい。Co -Fusionはもっともっと多くの人に聞いてもらうべきだよね！

さて、3:00（連行）へ向けて緊張感は高まっていく。スペシャルな照明の効果を強調するためにいったん部屋を暗くして、サウンドも落とし部屋をスモークで一杯にした。。。バーン！８つのパワフルなストロボがダンスフロア中心を直接攻撃、フロア中が稲妻に包まれた。ダンスフロアにいた人たちは行き場がない、いや、「連行」されたのだ。音楽も激しくなった。ステージ上の僕でさえ１M先も見えないほど。究極な、でも新鮮にドラマチックだった。僕の後ろにある大きなスクリーンはUFOのイメージを映し出していた。確かにコンタクトは取られたのだ！

5:00の終了までアップテンポなペースは続いた。とてもグレートだったよ。来てくれた人たちありがとう。今週の金曜日にも会おう。明日火曜日は福岡に出発する。パーティの様子を掲載しよう。お楽しみはまだまだこれから。

Hello from Tokyo. I arrived yesterday 10/12. Indian Summer weather here is still quite nice. In Japan, late October is when the weather takes a turn into colder days. Still suffering from lingering jet-lag, we're making away through the last minute meetings to reconfirm all the details before the debut party of Contact Special at Womb tomorrow night. Immediately after my arrival, we Today starting at 10:00am, there were interviews, photo shoots, sound/lighting equipment checks, filming, meetings and even last minute shopping.

Thus far, all things are going as planned. The special lighting that will simulate the occurrence of an alien arrival is being assembled -- we'll test everything tomorrow afternoon just before soundcheck of C0-Fusion (the invited guest). The limited edition Leather Axis Bag for giveaways has arrived at the airport is being transferred from Japanese Customs to the Womb Club. Great! All there is to do now is figure out what music I'm going to play. If the weather behaves, it should be an interesting night.

Prior to Japan, I spent a few days in Paris during the FIAC (French International Art of Comptempory). I presented and performed a DJ/Video performance of remixed video footage's of the American dancer, Josephine Baker (footage's from 1931 and 1939) and Buster Keaton (1931 - "The Three Ages"). Basically, I mixed bits and pieces of films the same way a DJ would mix records together. It all turned out very well. From here, I'll create a shorter version of the project for TV broadcasting and for a limited DVD release. It was also Fashion Week in Paris so, every 3rd person I seen walking on the street was a model, or at least trying to look the part. Interesting. The hard gossip floating around Paris was of Beyonce' and Jay-Z shopping after hours in a shop called Colette. On lookers gathered in front of the shop peering through the front window to get a peek.........Danm, I missed it.......next time!!.

In addition to the updates about Contact Special parties at Womb in Tokyo and the other cities in Japan, I'll be reporting on an investigative project called "Looking For The Perfect Beat". It's about searching for places or unique spots within the city of Tokyo that often go unnoticed by passing pedestrians. Places that could serve as a refuge for those wanting to have a quick escape from a flowing population that Tokyo has become notorious for. We'll show the space, describe it's intended purpose, why it's unique and most importantly, how to find it (via map).

It's always great to be here in Tokyo. There is a certain electricity that is only possible to understand by visiting. From this point onwards, the days become much more busy so, I'll be writing more frequently. Stay tuned in.

東京からこんにちわ。10月12日に日本に到着した。天気が良くてインディアン・サマーのようだね。日本では10月後半に季節が変わって寒くなってくるのだろう。まだ軽い時差ぼけのあるなか、明日のWombでのContact Specialデビューに直前ミーティングで詳細の再確認をした。到着してすぐ、今日朝10時からインタビュー、写真撮影、サウンドやライトのチェック、ミーティングや、明日のためのぎりぎりショッピングなどした。

今のところすべては順調だ。未知物体の到着を知らせるスペシャルなライティングが組立られて、明日の午後チェックすることになっている。その後Co-Fusion（明日のゲスト）のサウンドチェックがある。プレゼント用の限定版レザー Axis Bagが日本に到着して通関中だったのが、Wombに無事届けられることになった。よかった！　あと準備すべきことは僕が何をプレイするか決めるだけだ。天気も協力してくれれば面白い夜になるだろう。

日本にくる前、FIAC（フランス国際現代アート展）開催中にパリに数日滞在した。そこで僕はDJ/ビデオ・パフォーマンスとして、アメリカ人ダンサー、ジョセフィン・ベイカー（1931年から1939年にかけての映像）の映像をリミックスしたものと、バスター・キートン（1931年の”The Three Ages")を披露した。基本的にDJがレコードをミックスするように、映画のところどころをミックスしたんだ。とてもうまくいった。そこからTV放送用や、DVDリリースように短いバージョンを作る予定だ。ちょうどパリはファッション・ウィークで、通りですれ違う人3人に１人はモデルか、少なくともモデル志望だったみたいだ。ビヨンセとJay-Zが店が閉まった後にコレットで買い物をしてたというのがトップのゴシップ。通りに一目見ようという野次馬があふれていたとか。ちぇっ、僕はミスってしまった。この次に期待！

東京Wombや他の都市でのContact Specialのアップデートのほかに、”Looking For The Perfect Beat"という探検プロジェクトを始めようと思う。これは東京で普段気づかずに通り過ぎてしまうようなユニークなスポットを探そうというもの。東京の有名な過剰人口からちょっとしたエスケープをしたい人たちの隠れ家になるような場所。場所の紹介、そこでのすごし方、なぜユニークなのか、そして一番重要なことに、そこへの地図を紹介したいと思う。

東京の滞在はいつもグレートだ。実際来てみないと理解できないような電気があるんだ。これからはもっと忙しくなってきて、書くことも増えるだろう。お楽しみに。

そういえば、Ken IshiiとBen SimsのミックスCDが発売になっていたね。

Hello All. I'm currently in Montpellier, France. Extreme weather here.Constant raining and servere lightning storms for the past few days.They call the warning a "red alert". Trains/planes grounded and peopletold to stay off the street. Extreme!.

I'm here for a orchestra recording session from a live performance thatwe did here in 7/05 at a historic landmark called Pont Du Gard. We'repreparing for a DVD and CD that will be out later this year. Theproject is called "The Blue Potential". The project is a live recordingof the orchestra performing with myself 12 tracks that I've producedover the past 15 years. Tracks like: Sonic Destroyer and Amazon(UR),Gamma Player, The March, 4Art, Time Machine and more. The MontpellierNational Orchestra and myself will perform in a few places aroundeurope in the coming year as well.

Today, we were challenged by numerous recording studio problems but, weeventually solve them all and made progress. The next step is for mecreate additional parts for the 5.1 surround feature. This will beconducted in Chicago.

I recently dj'd at the Fuse Club in Brussels. It was really a goodnight. Like long-lasting Techno venues such as "Lost" in London and"The Rex" in Paris, the Techno audience is high above the norm.

Thanks to those who have replied since the last posting. To answer aquestion:
- Studio applications: It's not very often I'm asked about mystudio techniques. Maybe the fact that I do not use computer forsequencing or writing music could have something to do with it. Overthe years, I've reduced the amount of equipment to just a few keypieces and rely on the sequencer less and less. Playing parts by handcreates more personality in the tracks. Thanks for your inquiries.

Contact Special is coming along amazingly well. At this time, we'reformatting the performance structure for the other cities outside ofTokyo in Japan during October. We're designing a visual set-up thatrequires a transparent/mesh video screen between myself and theaudience that we'll display Contact Special conceptual images/videosupon. We've tried it in Australia last year and it worked well. Mystage set-up at Womb will be slightly different than previous years.This year, I will create the ability to write/play music in real-timeduring the dj set. It's a new idea that I think will work well .We'llsee.

皆さんこんにちわ。僕は今、フランスのモンペリエにいる。とんでもない天気だ。雷雨の嵐がこの数日間ずっと続いている。「最大注意」警報がだされて、電車、飛行機はストップ、人も外出禁止。極端だなぁ！

ここには、７月５日にPont DuGardという遺跡で行われたオーケストラとのライブ・パフォーマンスの録音の確認のために来た。年末にかけてリリース予定のＣＤとＤＶＤの準備をしているのだ。プロジェクトは”The BluePotential"というタイトル。過去15年間に渡って僕が創った曲の中から12曲をオーケストラと僕が一緒に演奏したライブ・レコーディングだ。Sonic Destroyer,　Amazon (URからの曲）、Gamma Player, The March、４Art,　TimeMachineなどなど。モンペリエ国立オーケストラとの共演は来年以降もヨーロッパの各所で行われる予定。

今日はレコーディング・スタジオで数々の問題が発生しつつも、なんとかすべて解決して進展があった。次のステップは５．１サラウンド・サウンドで付け足すパートを録音することだ。これはシカゴで行うことになるだろう。

最近はブリュッセルのクラブ、Fuseでプレイした。すごく良かった。ロンドンのLostやパリのRexみたいに長年続いているテクノクラブで、オーディエンスは平均を大きく上回るクオリティなんだ。



ところで、前回のテキストにメッセージをくれた人たちありがとう。質問に答えよう。
スタジオに関して：　スタジオでのテクニックに関して質問されることは実はあまりない。シーケンスや曲を書くのにコンピュータを使っていないことと何か関係があるのかもしれない。長年、機材を減らしていて今はキーボード数台、シーケンサーに頼ることもどんどん減ってきている。手で楽器をプレイすることが曲にパーソナリティをもたらすと思っているんだ。質問ありがとう。

ContactSpecialはとてもうまく進行している。今、東京以外の都市でのパフォーマンス内容を検討しているところだ。僕とオーディンスの間にメッシュのようなスクリーンを用意してContactSpecialのコンセプチュアルなイメージ、ビデオを映すセットアップをデザイン中。去年オーストラリアでトライしてとてもうまくいったんだ。Wombでの僕のステージ・セットは昨年までとは少し違ったものになるだろう。今年はDJの最中にリアルタイムで曲を作りプレイすることができるようにしたいと思っている。うまくいくと思うんだけど。お楽しみに。
