Over the last few years, and without even noticing it myself, a　natural progression has started blurring the lines between my DJ sets,studio work and live performances.

In that spirit I will present you　with some new ideas and approaches on the ‘real-time’ aspect of playing　music, where I may be doing ‘live remixes’ of songs you have already　heard in their original form, as well as manipulating bits and piecesof all kinds of disparate material assembled in front of you in a　spontaneous manner. This will take the shape of a ‘Live Performance’,but hopefully retain the immediacy and intensity of a DJ set, using an　array of hardware and software devices such as Ableton "Live", NI "Traktor DJ Studio", and others.

It will be the first time I have been　invited to do this in front of an audience, and would like to thank　Jeff Mills and Womb for allowing me to share this with you.

この数年間、自分でも気付かないうちに自分のＤＪセット、スタジオ・ワークそしてライブ・パフォーマンスの境界線がどんどん薄れていくように進化している。

その精神に基づき、音楽をプレイする上での「リアルタイム」の側面に関する新しいアイディアとアプローチを、オリジナルでは聞き覚えのある曲を「ライブ・リミックス」したり、自然な形で様々な音のパーツを観客の前で組み立てていく形で紹介したいと思う。
「ライブパフォーマンス」の形をとりつつも、ＤＪセットの即効力や集中力をキープできればと期待する。Ableton "Live", NI "Traktor DJ Studio"などのハードウェア、ソフトウェアを駆使して。

オーディエンスの前でこのセットを紹介するのは今回が初めてになり、この機会を与えてくれたJeff MillsとWombに感謝する。

Hello. Welcome to my blog. Well, seasonal weather is changing in Europe. Cooler tempertures tend to drive people indoors more often which is great news for the club/party industry here in Europe.

The past few parties in Amsterdam, Berlin and Spain have been really good. Large attnedances and great reactions. Amsterdam is such a cool place, the parties are always a celebration of life.

Honestly, I was a little bit skeptical at the beginning of this "Music" tour I am currently on with DJ Laurent Garnier. because Laurent and myself are programming and pursuing a much wider variety and range of music for all parties, we were unsure how people would react to music that they've never heard before and most music does not consist of high beats per minute (BPM) and/or driving percussive beats that we find in most of the new dance music today. 　

We play almost every genre of modern music in a single evening. From Blues, Jazz, Soul/Funk, Hip Hop/Rap, Salsa, Nu Wave, Rock, World Beat, Disco, House, Techno, Electro and a few other things all in one party.

It is a large program that requires many hours, so we both start playing music at the opening of the club/party until the end. Roughly 7 - 9 hours at each party, individually playing every 30 minutes throughout the night.

It is a lot of fun and the people really enjoy hearing music that they haven't heard in many years. I can see on that faces of people attending that hearing forgetten music brings back a rush of great memories. This feeling of overjoy, I logically find missing in most of the parties around the world these days. Perhaps with so many advancements in technology and music, a few steps back to the past is refreshing because it re-examines the roots of music evolution.
To enhance the tour and spread the word of music even further, we've incorpratated a paralell radio station tour that consist of roughly 3 hours of eclectic music in each city where we've DJ'd during the night.

There are a few more dates to go before the end of this "Music" tour. Lusanne, Switzerland and Barcelona, Spain. Things seem to have gone well so, the probability is high that Laurent and I will come to Japan for a tour date sometime next year.

こんにちは。僕のBlogへようこそ。ヨーロッパでは季節が移り変わってきました。温度が低くなると人々はインドアにこもりがちになるので、ここヨーロッパのクラブ、パーティ・ビジネスにとっては良い時期なのです。

アムステルダム、ベルリンそしてスペインと最近行ったパーティはどれも最高でした。たくさんのお客さんとグレートなりアクション。アムステルダムは最高にクールな場所で、パーティはいつも人生を祝福しているかのようです。

正直なところ、現在DJ：ローラン・ガルニエと行っている "Music"ツアーが始まる時、僕はちょっと懐疑的でした。というのもローランと僕は全てのパーティでいつもより幅広い、様々なジャンルの音楽をプレイするので、お客さんが今まで聞いたことのない音楽や、最近のダンスミュージックで主体となる速いBPM、またはパーカッション・ビートが続く音楽ではないものにどう反応するか心配だったのです。

僕たちは毎晩、現代音楽の全てのジャンルをプレイしているといっていいでしょう。ブルース、ジャズ、ソウル・ファンク、ヒップホップ・ラップ、サルサ、ニューウェーブ、ロック、ワールドビート、ディスコ、ハウス、テクノ、エレクトロ、他にもいろいろのものを一回のパーティですべてかけています。

この壮大な企画は時間がかかるので、クラブのオープン時間から最後まで二人だけでプレイしています。各パーティはだいたい７～９時間、30分で交代しながらプレイしています。

とっても楽しくて、来てくれた人たちも何年も聞いていなかったような音楽を心から楽しんでくれているようです。忘れていた音楽が昔の良き思い出をフラッシュバックさせているのがみんなの顔からわかります。この至福の感覚、最近の世界中のパーティの多くに欠けていることだと学びました。たぶんテクノロジーと音楽があまりに発達したおかけで、過去にちょっと後戻りするのは新鮮なことで、音楽進化のルーツを再確認することができます。

ツアーをさらに拡大して、音楽の世界をさらにつきつめていくことを目的に、僕たちはツアーと同時にDJする各都市でラジオ局のツアーも行っており、各都市約３時間のエレクトロニックミュージック番組の中でDJしています。

"Music"ツアーが終了するまで後少し、スイスのローザンヌとスペイン、バルセロナにこれから行きます。全ては上手くいっており、ローランと僕が来年日本にツアーで行くことになるかもしれません。

Welcome. It's been quite a busy week. Between the traveling and very late club nights in the cities of Paris, London and Brussels there is little time to take a break. Since the release of my first dvd project called the "Exhibitionist" earlier this year, I can clearly confess that this year as been much more than I expected.Overwhelming to say the least!. From January starting with annual French and Spanish Tours, we've travelled to England, USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Holland, Belgium and a number of summer festivals, including Ibiza. Today in Berlin, Germany 09/23, I spent the better part of the day shopping for music to play for the second half the "Music" tour.

Generally, I buy music almost everywhere I travel. Certain cities for certain styles. For instance, London for Drum and Bass, Breaks and UK House, the USA for Garage House, Chicago House, Detroit Techno, Afro Cuban Dance, Gospel House, Jazz, Hip Hop/Rap, Bass Station, Rock and Disco. Germany for Experimental Works, Electro, Minimal Techno, Reggae, Nu Wave and other "plugged in" genres.

Berlin has great record shops. Cheaper prices than in Tokyo. Here, the record shops are slightly larger so finding back titles of a label/artists are likely. In the middle of day Monday through Wednesday is when most local and visiting International DJs buy their records here. Hardwax Records is one of the best shops that specializes in Electronic Music and Reggae Dub. While shopping in Berlin, the best things to look for are Rock, Electronic Music, 70's/80's Body Music and Disco. Boney M is everywhere!.

The next city for the "Music" tour with DJ Laurent Garnier will be Amsterdam 09/23 at a venue called "Paradisio". Located in the center of Amsterdam, The Paradisio is a hub for most Dutch and International bands. Quite well-known. It should be an exciting party as tickets are selling fast. The Dutch are known to grow to be very tall people so, I can expect a night of looking up. I've been traveling to Holland to play for over 10 years and it's always an experience to play there. The better parties are in the smaller cities throughout the country. I'll let you know how this one goes.

September is usually a busy time in Europe for the music industry. Everyone has returned from holiday sun tanned and ready to get back to work. There are lots of parties at this time. Mostly clubs. In the music industry, record labels tend to release during Sept./Oct. as to stay as far away from the Christmas holiday rush so, be on the look out for new products.

The production plans of Time Sensitive moves on to the next level. Things are looking fantastic. The visual design schemes have been confirmed and the special conceptual films that will used on the second week for the "Detroit Techno Night"(10/15) and the fourth night called "The Experience"(10/29) are in production. Once complete, I'll post samples for you to view. I look forward to coming to Japan next month as the weather is in transition from summer to autumn and change is everywhere.

ようこそ。今週はとても忙しくしています。パリ、ロンドン、ブリュッセルを都市から都市へと旅し、クラブで夜遅くまですごす間に休む暇はほとんどありません。今年初めに僕の初のDVDプロジェクトである"Exhibitionist"をリリースして以来、はっきり言って仕事量は僕が想像していたよりもはるかに多くて、言葉にならない、といってもいいほどです。１月に恒例のフランス、スペインツアーを開始してから、イギリス、アメリカ、カナダ、ドイツ、スイス、イタリア、ポルトガル、オランダ、ベルギーを回って、夏にはイビザなどの多くのフェスティバルでプレイしてきたのです。
今日、9月23日はベルリンで、一日のほとんどを"Music"ツアー後半にむけての音楽探しのショッピングに費やしました。

今日の幸運な収穫は：

通常旅先ほとんどの場所でレコードを買います。都市によってそれぞれのスタイルがあります。例えば、ロンドンはドラム＆ベース、ブレークビーツそしてUKハウス、アメリカはガラージハウス、シカゴハウス、デトロイトテクノ、アフロキューバン・ダンス、ゴスペルハウス、ジャズ、ヒップホップ・ラップ、ベース・ステーション、ロックやディスコといった具合に。ドイツはエクスペリメンタルな作品、エレクトロ、ミニマルテクノ、レゲエ、ニューウェーブやその他「流行の」ジャンルを得意としています。

ベルリンにはグレートなレコードショップがあります。東京より安いし。店のサイズも少し大きくてレーベル、アーチストのバックカタログを見つけられる可能性も高いです。月曜から水曜の平日は多くのインターナショナルDJがここベルリンでレコードショッピングをするのです。エレクトロニックミュージックとレゲエ・ダブを専門とするハードワックスは中でもベストショップといえるでしょう。ベルリンで探すべきはロック、エレクトロニック・ミュージック、70年代・80年代ディスコ。Boney Mはどこに行っても必ずあります！

ローラン・ガルニエとの"Music"ツアーの次の都市はアムステルダム、9月23日Paradisioというクラブです。Paradisioは多くのオランダ、インターナショナルのバンドのハブになっている場所です。とても有名なところです。チケットもあっという間に売れて、エキサイティングなパーティになることでしょう。オランダ人は背が高い人が多いので、この晩はみんなを見上げなくちゃならないかな。オランダには10年以上プレイしに行っていますが、いつも違った経験をすることができます。オランダ国内の小さな都市ではさらに良いパーティがあるのです。ツアーの様子はまた追って知らせます。

9月はヨーロッパの音楽業界にとっては通常忙しい時期です。みんな、ホリディから帰ってきて日焼けした顔で仕事へと戻ります。この季節はパーティもたくさんあります。音楽業界ではレーベルはクリスマス休暇時期のリリースラッシュを避けて9月、10月にリリースが多いので、新しい作品を探してみては。

【Time Sensitive】のプロダクション・プランは次のレベルへと向かっています。すべて順調。ヴィジュアル・デザインの企画も確定し、２週目（10/15)の"Detroit Techno Revenge"と４週目（10/29)の"The Experience"ではスペシャルでコンセプチュアルなフィルムを上映することになりました。完成したら、このブログでもサンプルをお見せします。来月日本に行くのをとても楽しみしています。季節も夏から秋へと移り変わり、変化がそこここに見られます。

Konnichiwa. Welcome to my personal blog. I'm delighted to have this way to communicate with other future music minded people about the inner workings of how I work within the world of Electronic Music/Arts. At this time, I am at the half point of a 8 european city "Music" dj tour with France's Top Techno DJ Laurent Garnier. Thus far, the tour has been a massive success -- selling out all venues at each city. If the entire tour goes as planned, we'll seriously think about creating a "Music" tour for other countries including Japan for sometime in 2005. I'll update you more about this tour as we work through it.

As we move from city to city within the "Music" tour, preparations for my Time Sensitive DJ Residency 2004 at Womb-Tokyo are underway. As with the 2 previous years with other Tokyo DJ Residencies at Luners in 10/2002 and at Womb Club in 2003, there are countless details and arrangements that have to be completed before the doors of the club open on Friday, Oct. 8. In theory, the concept of the Time Sensitive Residency is quite logical. With "Time", what we will attempt to do with the venue of Womb, visual images, music/sound and lots of imagination is to create a platform for this years special invited artists/djs to create something magical. With "Sensitivity", our organising team will devoteall efforts to insure that this "Magic" is translated to those that attend each friday night. Each of the elements require large amounts of attention. For October in regards to the Womb residency, the Time Sensitive tour dates in cities outside of Tokyo and other scheduled events we have planned for next month, there are at least 150 people working hard to make it all possible.

I'm quite excited about this years invited special guest. On Friday, Oct. 8th, we have the legendary Francois K. Like many others, I've watched and listended to the work of this genius since my youth growing up in Detroit. Personally knowing him and having him come to open the residency is without doubt a great gift. Friday, Oct. 15th has been neatly reserved for the Sound Of Detroit Techno!. On this day, Detroit's Octave One with Ann Saunderson performs live!. On Friday, Oct. 22, we'll try something different from previous years and devote this night to the rich sounds of Funk/Soul Music with Tokyo's own DJ Muro. The night is appropriately titled "Turn It Up, Turn It Loose". On the final night of the residency, Friday, Oct. 29th, with the special guest DJ Ken Iishi, we are both planning something innovative and..........pleasantly different!. The night is called "The Experience". I'll be writing more about each and every night of residency and other events for October to keep you informed.

With this blog page in the weeks to come, I'll be giving you closer view of the behind-the-scenes update of how we are doing with all the planning for this yearly event at Womb plus other world-wide Electronic Music updates. In a single day, I am constantly learning new names, places and sounds. Most of the time, it can be tiring but also quite rewarding. Stay tuned for all the news!.

こんにちわ。僕のパーソナル・ブログへようこそ。このようにして、未来の音楽に関心をもった人たちと僕がエレクトロニック・ミュージックとアートの世界でどのように仕事をしているかの内部事情をコミュニケートすることができて大変うれしいです。今、フランスのトップテクノＤＪ：ローラン・ガルニエとともにヨーロッパ８都市を回る【Music】ツアーのちょうど中盤に入ったところです。今のところツアーは大成功、各都市ソールド・アウトになっています。ツアー全体が予定通りに終了したら、この【Music】ツアーを2005年、日本も含め今回行っていない国に企画することを真剣に考えたいと思っています。このツアーに関しては、ツアーが進むにしたがってまたこのブログで報告します。

【Music】ツアーで都市から都市へと移動するあいだも、東京のWombで行われる【Time Sensitive 2004】DJ レジデンシーの準備は着々と進んでいます。2002年10月Luners、2003年Wombと過去２年間東京でのＤＪレジデンシー同様、10月8日金曜日の第一回目のドア・オープンまでにやらなければならない詳細やアレンジが限りなくあります。論理的には【Time Sensitive】のコンセプトは非常にロジカルなものです。『Time(時間）』とともに、僕たちがWombでやろうとしていること、ビジュアル映像、音楽そしてたくさんのイマジネーションが今年、特別に招待されたアーチスト・ＤＪたちがなにか『マジカル』なものを創りだすような土台を築きます。『Sensitivity（敏感性）』をもって、僕たちのオーガナイズ・チームはその『マジック』が毎週金曜日にきてくれる人たちにきちんと伝わるように、すべての努力を払います。すべての面で多大なる気遣いが必要です。10月のWombでのレジデンシー、東京以外の都市でのTime Sensitiveツアーやその他来月僕が企画しているイベントに関して、少なくとも150人のスタッフが成功のため働いてくれています。

今年もスペシャルなゲストを招待しておりとてもエキサイトしています。10月8日金曜日は伝説ともいえるFrancois Kを迎えます。多くの人たちのように、僕は長年にわたりデトロイトでの少年時代より、この天才の作品を聴いてきました。個人的なつきあいもある彼をレジデンシーのオープニングに迎えられることは大きな光栄です。10月15日金曜日はデトロイト・テクノサウンドのために用意されています。この日はデトロイト出身、Octave One with Ann Saundersonのライブがあります！　10月22日金曜日は今までとは違ったことにトライ、東京が誇るDJ Muroとともにファンク・ソウルミュージックのリッチなサウンドに捧げます。【Turn It Up, Turn It Loose】というふさわしいタイトルをつけました。そしてレジデンシーの最終日、10月29日金曜日はスペシャル・ゲストにKen Ishiiを迎え、お互いにイノベイティブで・・・すばらしく違ったものをお届けします！　この夜は【The Experience】と名づけられました。毎回のレジデンシーと10月のほかのイベントに関しては今後詳しくお知らせします。

このブログページで期間中、Wombでの恒例イベントのプランニングをすべてどのように行っているかをシーンの上側からクロースアップした報告と、同時にその他ワールドワイドなエレクトロニック・ミュージックのアップデートをお知らせしていきたいと思っています。毎日新しい名前、場所やサウンドを絶え間なく学んでいます。ほとんどの場合それは疲れる作業ですが、同時に大変ためになるものでもあります。今後のニュースにステイ・チューンド！
