photo theater「ataraxia」は、写真集『ataraxia』（２０１０年、青幻舎）をもとに、音楽家の守時タツミさんが美しいメロディを作曲してくださり、ひとつの映像作品として新たに作り上げられた。
写真集として発表したこの作品が、このような形で新たに発展していくことに喜びを感じるとともに、これからこの作品がどのような人たちと出会い、育っていくのかを想像すると、楽しみでならない。
“アタラクシア”とは、古代ギリシアの哲人、エピクロスが人生の目的に据えた“平静な心”を意味する言葉だが、この作品が、これから出会う人たちの心の中に、“アタラクシア”という世界をひろげていってくれたら幸せに思う。

Tatsumi has created beautiful melodies for the photo collection “ataraxia” (SEIGENSHA, 2010), and brought life, a whole new footage creation “ataraxia [photo theater]”. After its initial introduction as a photo collection, I am very pleased to see “ataraxia” develop into this new form of creation. Now as I imagine its further growth with new encounters, I am very excited. “Ataraxia” is a term used by Greek Philosopher Epicurus, aimed as a purpose in life, which means “tranquil state of mind”. I hope that this creation will spread the “ataraxia” world into minds of everyone that it encounters.

今回、岡田さんとのセッションにあたって、写真集を見させてもらいましたが、そのパワーには圧倒されました。「photo theater」は、写真と音楽が合わさって初めて１つの作品になるわけですが、岡田さんの力強く繊細な写真に対して、どんな音楽が合うのか、ずいぶん考えました。そんな中、スライドショーの4枚目にあたる雪の写真、この1枚が今回キーになる写真となりました。この写真を前にして、何日もピアノを弾きながらフレーズを探しました。その中からメロディのかけらを見つけ、そこから曲を完成することできました。シナリオも文字もない「photo theater」、みなさん、ひとりひとりのストーリーを感じ取ってください。

When I first saw the photo collection in collaborating with Atsushi, I was blown away by its powers. “photo theater” would be created by coming together of photo and music, so I pondered for a long time what kind of music would match Atsushi's powerful, yet delicate photo work. That is when this snow photo, 4th in the slideshow became the key. I played the piano for days with this picture in front of me, looking for the phrase. Then I finally found a piece of melody, and completed the song. “photo theater” does not have a scenario or words, I would like every audience to feel and grasp their own story.

1979年、北海道生まれ。札幌出身。
2003年、大阪芸術大学芸術学部写真学科卒業。
2008年、東京工芸大学大学院芸術学研究科博士後期課程修了、博士号取得（芸術学）。
2002年、富士フォトサロン新人賞受賞。2008年、“写真界の芥川賞”といわれる
木村伊兵衛写真賞を写真集『I am』（赤々舎）で受賞。2010年、受賞第一作目となる
写真集『ataraxia』(岡田敦・伊津野重美)を青幻舎より刊行。
海外からの注目も高い新進気鋭の写真家である。

Atsushi Okada was born in Hokkaido, Japan in 1979. He graduated from Osaka University of Arts in March 2003 where he majored in photography, and earned a B.A. degree. In 2002, he was awarded “the Nikon Juna21” and “Fuji Photo Salon the New Face Prize 2002”. In March of 2008, he earned his Ph.D at Graduate School of Arts of Tokyo Polytechnic University. In April of 2008, he received “the 33rd Kimura Ihei Memorial Memorial Award of Photography 2007” by “the Asahi Shimbun Company”.

キーボードプレーヤーとして音楽活動を開始。コンサートツアー、レコーディングから、アレンジ、プロデュースまでこなす。今まで関わったアーティストは、佐野元春、 ザ・ハイロウズ、Kinki KidsからClementineにまで至る。また、Carmine Appice、Tony Franklinらで結成されたPearlのツアーにも参加。後に、ベネチア映画祭招待作品『千年旅人』など映画音楽も手がけるようになる。2008年より「100年後の子供達へ」の思いでdecibelを立ち上げ、iTunes Store上で活動を展開する。ナレーションと音楽で綴った昔話、“おとえほん和音”から、“MOTTAINAI sound”、“おやすみオルゴール”、“photo theater”など、企画、プロデュースを手がけ、高い評価を得ている。

Tatsumi Moritoki started his career as a keyboard player after he graduated from high school and is now a well known producer, arranger and composer in the Japanese music industry. He has also succeeded internationally, in collaborating with Pearl, and the arranging songs for Clementine. He has also produced the sound tracks of the film, “a traveler of the thousand years” (2003), which had been selected as the invited film of the Venetian Film Festival. Since 2008, he has been reputed for his works of audiobooks and iPhone apps distributed at iTunes Store.
